Why pre-shoots are invaluable? Newborough Beach with A&D

I recently shot with one of my 2025 couples in Anglesey, and it was just a gorgeous evening from start to finish. It reminded me of why I love pre-shoots so much, and why they’ve always been included in my full day package (optional of course). Here’s why a pre-wedding shoot is truly invaluable.

1. Get Comfortable in Front of the Camera.

I can absolutely sympathise with couples who experience nerves or camera shyness—it's incredibly common. Pre-shoots create a laid-back, pressure-free space for couples to relax and ease into the process. The feedback I receive from couples after these sessions is what makes them so worthwhile. So often, people tell me how much more relaxed, comfortable, and confident they feel after spending just an hour or so chatting, taking photos, and simply being in the moment together. It makes all the difference when the wedding day arrives.

2. Breaks the ice with your photographer.

Your wedding photographer is one of the only people that will be with you from start to finish on the day. It’s sooo important that you vibe and gel together ahead of the day. Pre-shoots allow me to get to know my couples, build trust, and tap into what shooting style works best for them - be that more romantic and posed, or playful and natural.

3. Tells your story.

One of my favourite elements of a pre-shoot - injecting your personality and creating a shoot that feels true to you as a couple. Pre-wedding shoots allow you to pick a location, outfit (usually white or pale colours work best!), or theme that reflects your personalities. Whether it's a beach picnic, a lakeside wander, or a cozy shoot at your favourite coffee shop or wine bar—this is your chance to express your style and creating something really unique.

4. Keepsakes.

I always send a gallery of photos 1 week following a pre shoot. My couples are then welcome to use as the wish - on their wedding website, wedding newspapers, stationery etc,

5. A gorgeous way to celebrate your engagement.

Pre shoots provide a break from the chaos of wedding planning to just exist together. Your engagement is such an exciting chapter, and something that should be looked back on with fond memories. Get dressed up and head for dinner and drinks following the shoot to make it extra special.

I adored this shoot at Newborough beach in Anglesey with Amy, Dan, and their Dalmatian, Bella. They wanted to shoot at a location that held meaning to them, and for me to capture them doing exactly what they love - strolling along the beach at golden hour with Bella. Despite being faced with gusts of 30mph winds, A&D embraced the elements and the results are to die for - romantic, honest, and cinematic. Rose x
